John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) as completely asocial and lonely eight years old wishes that his new teddy bear, Ted, comes to life and becomes his first, best and only friend. His wish was fulfilled, and after the initial fame Ted (Seth MacFarlane) quickly falls into media oblivion and completely devotes to their friendship.
27 years later, things have changed just a bit. John and Ted are still best friends, inseparable, and they are far from grown ups. But John nevertheless has a successful life. Alongside his best friend there he has a good job with big shoots for promotion and beautiful and successful girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis). But both his work and especially Lori suffers because of his childish friendship with Ted. Lori's longtime dissatisfaction with Ted's impact on John explodes when he leaves her's company's anniversary party to go to Ted's party with their childhood idol, Sam Jones (Flash Gordon).
While the relationship between John and Lori is just one big cliché, the film has an interesting subplot in which Donny (Giovanni Ribisi), who has obsession about Ted since childhood, decides to buy/steal him for his son. Towards the end film starts to get some seriousness and is heading for interesting turn of events, but we eventually get one compatible with movies atmosphere but without even a hint of originality.
The only thing this film has to stand out from other similar comedies is Ted, who as a talking teddy bear instantly provokes a smile, but also irresistibly reminds on alien Paul from Pegg/Frost duo. Ted is just the opposite of all that a teddy bear is in the minds of majority. He's insolent, swearing all the time, he drinks, takes drugs and he's obsessed with sex (in the only sex scene in the film he is involved). Ted is carrier of all humor in film and he is definitely a memorable character, but he is also the only one that leaves any impression. John and Lori were tasteless, just one of that, many times seen, couples. Although Wahlberg and Kunis did a solid job their characters disappear from memory almost immediately after watching.Big part of jokes and dialogues are completely forced and the humor is generally simple, unoriginal and constant so it starts to fade after half of the film. But there are great scenes, especially in the first half that are hard to forget (like Fuck You Thunder songs). All humor is based on Ted who was created and given the voice by Seth MacFarlane, known for his work on Family Guy whose humor is quite successfully ported to the movie. So, fans of Family Guy will probably be quite satisfied.
MacFarlane has also directed the film and since it's his directorial debut a large number of all kinds of errors are forgivable, especially since, in general, they have little affect on the enjoyment of the film. Ted is nominally most profitable R-rated comedy in history, so it obviously encountered a good reception by the audience and critics also weren't so sharp towards it. Movie also has one big plus at start, and that is Patrick Stewart as narrator.
Comedy is quite prostituted genre lately, so every movie with a pinch of originality is welcomed. Ted will be probably forgotten on long term, but right now it is a solid entertainment and it wakes our intrigue for MacFarlan's next project that is still in pre-production, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

No, John unatoč tome ima uspješan život. I posao, a posebno Lori pate zbog njegova djetinjasta prijateljstva s Tedom.
